If Spam were the ham-want-a-be instead of junk e-mail, I could say you are what you eat. Thats because Spam is supposed to be a reflection of who you are, based on the websites you visit and the cookies that follow you home. I have the obligatory bulk mail folder that fills up faster than the New Orleans levies during Katrina. But, its a social phenomenon that deserves closer scrutiny. In the interest of scientific investigation and self-diagnosis, Ill share some recent e-mails and what it tells you about my pathetic life. Ill break it down by e-mail subject and what I think it means.

I had been married for a year and we hadnt been able to afford a honeymoon. So
we saved for a year, picked a Montego Bay resort in Jamaica, off a travel brochure,
and prepared for a long week-end getaway over Presidents Day. We lived in New
Jersey at the time and hadnt traveled much. My wife was from a very small town in
West Virginia and never been in a hotel before.

Maggie, the 22 year-old African elephant, has been a resident of the Alaska Zoo since 1983. The Zoo recently decided that Maggie needs nicer quarters, more attention, and a treadmill. She weighs 9,100 pounds and does not get enough exercise, especially during the long Alaskan winter months.

I broke a promise to myself that I never would, and joined a gym about six months ago. I made a schoolboy error right off the bat, in that I joined the same gym as a much-fitter friend of mine was already using, and went for a workout with him.
